What the client wanted

Mini Metro was coming to the Nintendo Switch with BIG new features, namely motion control and multiplayer. With Mini Metro, it's easy for players to get into a state of flow, and that's also something the client and I really wanted to showcase with the concept. I developed a treatment that showed off the new features, felt fun & portable, and captured that state of flow. The result was an ad where players of the game get lost in a trance-like dance battle on a subway train. I enlisted a local choreographer to create a four-person dance routine and worked with the producer to achieve the production quality we wanted on a tight budget.

The Shoot

We assembled a 30-person crew for the shoot, including a large lighting team. Originally we wanted to shoot on a subway train, but we quickly realized the budget wasn’t going to cover the massive costs charged by Vancouver city transit. As a solution, we rented a 1960s NYC bus and parked it in a car park. We then had the lighting team use the “Poor Man’s Process” with the lights outside to create the appearance of the "train" in motion.
